Colonneh Gallery at Deckled Edge Art Co.

Historical note: Colonneh — translated as “The Raven” — is the Cherokee name Chief John Jolly gave to Sam Houston, the general and former president of the Republic of Texas. Houston earned the name while living for a short time with the Cherokee in the Hiwassee River area of Tennessee during his adolescence after running away from home to avoid chores on his family’s farm.

Colonneh Gallery welcomes the public to explore and purchase original works and reproductions that celebrate the region’s creative spirit. The gallery showcases 2D and 3D pieces by emerging and established artists from Huntsville, Texas and surrounding areas, offering a curated selection of paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, and reproductions for viewing and sale.

Keirsten has been a working artist since she was 14 and an art educator for the last 10 years. She is a happy dog and plant mom and an avid reader, always on the lookout for new experiences and insights to bring to her art.

“My practice is deeply rooted in both introspection and inquiry. I create with a sense of reverence for the quiet details of everyday life, overlooked elements that often carry the weight of the meaning in my pieces. My work explores the tension and harmony between the natural and the personal, weaving in threads of floriography, art nouveau aesthetics, and symbolism to speak to themes of memory, identity, and transformation.”

    Artist: Julie Jack

Julie Jack is a multimedia artist based in Livingston, Texas. She began painting at sixteen and has spent more than two decades developing a thoughtful, self-directed practice. Her work is shaped by a longstanding love of color and the natural world. Painting primarily in watercolor, acrylic, and oil, she maintains an intentional studio rhythm while homeschooling her four children.

My work grows out of a steady practice of observing the natural world—its shifting light, its structure, its quiet beauty. I’m drawn to subtle shifts of color and shape, and I try to observe carefully what I paint. Working in the spaces around homeschooling and family life has taught me to approach my practice with focus and simplicity. Whether in watercolor, acrylic, or oil, my aim is to create work that reflects the beauty I see in the world—images that invite a pause and are worthy of quiet attention.”

Drawing has been a constant in his life since early childhood—a natural instinct that gradually evolved into a dedicated artistic pursuit. He began formal study in Kingwood, Texas, where he developed a foundation in painting, first working in acrylics. Color quickly became a defining passion, along with the expressive possibilities of paint itself.

His artistic voice expanded further when he discovered pastels. Captivated by their vibrancy and immediacy, he found in them a medium that perfectly suited his love of rich, luminous color. The tactile quality and intensity of pastels continue to inspire and shape his work.

Throughout his journey, he has studied with numerous instructors, most notably Louis Blackburne, whose mentorship proved transformative. Her commitment to excellence, encouragement, and thoughtful instruction deeply influenced his development as an artist. He also had the privilege of studying with Dick Turner, from whom he gained a deeper understanding of light and its essential role in creating compelling compositions.

He has exhibited in numerous shows, including participation in state-level exhibitions, and has been an active member of both the Livingston Art League and the Greenville Art League. He has also shown work in the San Jacinto County Fair art exhibitions.

His work reflects a lifelong dedication to growth, color, and the continual exploration of light and medium.
